You've might have noticed some changes recently. MarkGlover.com was recently down for a couple of days due to over usage of our bandwidth limit. It's now back up and running.

The blog also has a new URL and a few new tweaks. You can find it at www.MarkGlover.com/blog. I made the switch from my Doteasy hosted blog to a more robust Word Press blog. It allows for more freedom of design, better tracking and administrative features, and the ability to alter or migrate the blog in the future more easily. This will be the last post on this blog. All futures posts will be on the new blog.

The Pics page has also been updated altough not finished. The menu is more polished now and more pics were added. I'm still working on getting our wedding and New York pictures back up as well as posting some new pictures. Hope you enjoy and have a Merry Christmas.

Business at work has left the blog severely neglected. People are at the point of physical
violence,
demanding new posts. So here goes. Stephanie and I headed to the Northwest a couple of
months
ago for a little R and R. Nothing too high stress. Just some good food, good weather and a
little
kayaking. And for Stephanie a "little" shopping. We spent a lot of time roaming the Pike
Place
Market and streets of downtown. We got things moving a little and went kayaking on Union
Bay up
through The Cut at University of Washington and on through the Arboretum.

Our favorite part of the trip was probably all of the great food. We enjoyed great fresh
seafood at
the tourist venue The Crab
Pot. We fought the crowds at the authentic Maneki in Chinatown. But
our favorite was the authentic little Enza
Cucina Siciliana . There we enjoyed the cool Pacific breeze as Enza serenaded my wife
in Italian. Stephanie asked her about a couple of dishes and she was apparently so
enamored by her that she brought us both of those dishes but not the dish I ordered. We
didn't care though because it was all amazing.

We spent one afternoon on a ferry to Bainbridge Island were we walked the streets and
stuffed our messenger bag with delicious treats from Blackbird Bakery, after second and third helpings, of course. As we
returned to the mainland, the sun spotlighted the Space Needle giving us the view below.

A couple of months back Stephanie and I were at the park by the river when we noticed a helicopter flying exceptionally low. I pretty sure they were filming for a new TV show on TLC called the Police Women of Memphis. People often ask me what my job is like, especially at The MED. This show is fair comparison to what a typical day at The MED is like.

Stephanie and I finally had something in our lives exciting enough (outside of work) to blog about, and of course it's only taken me 6 weeks to finally blog about it. Last month we had a joint vacation and were able to hit the slopes at Jackson Hole, a ski resort just outside of Jackson, Wyoming.

Stephanie and I both love airports. Which is odd considering how much drama we've had in them. It rarely seems to go smoothly. I was meeting Stephanie in Jackson who was flying in from Houston. Of course the day I fly out of Memphis is the day it decides to start snowing. After de-icer truck failures and FIVE total de-icing attempts I was airborne to Chicago an hour and a half later. While traversing the length of O'Hare, I here "last call for boarding" of my flight. Needless to say, residency and The MED food has made me sloth like, not to mention running with ten pound snow boots on might as well be an exercise off of P90X. Another airport close call.

The town of Jackson is just the way we like it. A somewhat small, quaint ski village with lots of character. The first day we spent getting our legs back and hitting some cruisers. The resort lived up to it's reputation with a wide variety of terrain. My description of it would be the elevation change of the Alps, the bowls of Vail and the trees of Wolf Creek. Our favorite place to ski previously had been the back bowls and blue sky basin of Vail. But I think Jackson Hole might have taken the lead in all time favorite places to ski. Along this theme here's my list of top five places to ski in the US.

1. Jackson Hole

2. Vail

3. Wolf Creek

4. Crested Butte

5. Steamboat Springs

We were blessed with some gorgeous powder the second day of skiing and took full advantage. We also enjoyed to newly rebuilt 'Big Red' which travels 4,000 feet of elevation in 9 minutes. Stephanie was all proud because the recording on the gondola gives a long warning about being "expert terrain only" before you get off.

We decided it would probably be a while before returning to Jackson and that we should take full advantage of being only a few miles from Yellowstone. However, we soon found out that it is inaccessible to standard vehicles during the winter. So, we made due and hopped aboard a snowmobile instead.

It was truly one of the funnest things we've ever experienced. Yellowstone was beautiful even in the winter, and who wouldn't enjoy seeing it while going 55 mph on a snowmobile.

A couple of weeks ago, the planets aligned and Stephanie and I both had the weekend off. We haven't been to a concert for a couple of years, so we used this opportunity to attend a concert of an old favorite: Wilco. It was our first time to see them in concert and our first time to the Orpheum theatre. And yes, that IS a gong there in the first picture

Stephanie and I officially have one month as doctors under our belt. It's been both difficult and rewarding, and definitely a little humbling at times. At the end of the day, it's also nice to know you're getting paid to do this instead of paying to do it, as was the case the past four years.

Both of our schedules work on one month intervals. I began with Surgical Oncology and Stephanie began on Sub-specialty inpatient service. Several people have asked us what hospital we work at, so I though I would clarify. Stephanie works primarily at LeBonheur Children's hospital, which is undergoing a vast addition to be completed January 2010. She also does her oncology rotations at St. Jude's hospital. I work at six different hospitals during my residency, five of them this year. Last month I was at Methodist University hospital which you might have seen in the headlines recently. This month I am at Regional Medical Center, known locally simply as The Med. Other hospitals I will be working at include the VA, LeBonheur, Baptist and St. Francis.

I have a little more free time this month, so look for a new post in coming weeks with pictures of the new house with changes.
